Grading, Academic Year and Language of Instruction in Kazakhstan
A 5-point grading scale is used by the educational institutions in Kazakhstan at all educational levels. Grade 2 is the unsatisfactory grade, while grade 3, 4 and 5 are the passing grades.
- Grade 5 indicates Excellent (Өте жақсы) and equivalent US grade is A
- Grade 4 indicates Good (Жақсы) and is equivalent to US grade is B
- Grade 3 indicates Satisfactory (Қанағаттанарлық) and is equivalent to US grade C.
- Grade 2 indicates Unsatisfactory
Language of Instruction
The official language of instruction in Kazakhstan is Kazakh and Russian language. There are other minority languages also, such as Tatar, Uzbek, Kyrgyz, Ukrainian and Uyghur. English is also the language of instruction at many higher education institutions.
The school year commences the first of September and ends in June. The school year is of 210 days.
