Unified National Test in Kazakhstan

Unified National Test (UNT) is a secondary school leaving examination and entrance exam for the higher education institutions in Kazakhstan. The test results of this examination are also considered while awarding the “Bolashak” scholarship. This exam is held in early June. 

In 2014, about 87564 secondary school graduates appeared for the UNT. Out of which, 61654 students took the test in Kazakh language and 25910 students took the test in Russian language.

UNT Structure

Unified national test in conducted in two languages: Russian and Kazakh. The test comprises of 5 subjects- 4 compulsory and 1 optional. 
  • Total duration: 3.5 hours (210 minutes)
  • No. of test: 25 for each subject
Compulsory subjects are:
  • Mathematics
  • Russian or Kazakh language
  • Kazakhstan history
  • Kazakh language for Russian schools; and Russian for Kazakh schools
Optional Subject: The fourth subject is chosen by the student depending upon his/her interest and choice. The subjects from which the student can choose are: Literature, world history, physics, geography, foreign language, chemistry and biology.

Scoring and Results

A 125-point scale is used. The correct answer to each test item is assessed as 1 grade. The minimum passing score varies year on year. A minimum of 60 points is needed in order to gain admission into the university in Kazakhstan. 

Certificate awarded: Students who pass the exam get a diploma- the Certificat o Rezul'tatah EH. This diploma enables students to apply into the universities in Kazakhstan.
